About
Nikhil Fernandes is an articling student with The Acacia Group. He brings international legal training and cross‑jurisdictional experience to his work with the firm’s clients. Nikhil is licensed to practise law in India and has supported legal teams in both the United States and Canada, including personal‑injury litigation for a New York City law firm and immigration matters for a Canadian immigration practice.
At The Acacia Group, Nikhil will be working primarily in the litigation department. His areas of focus include employment law, general civil litigation, human rights, and constitutional litigation. He looks forward to serving our faith‑based clientele – churches, charities, non‑profits, and religious institutions – by providing thoughtful and principled legal support in complex and sensitive matters.
Nikhil’s approach to the law is grounded in a strong sense of justice and a commitment to the inherent dignity of every person. These principles shape his interest in serving clients, institutions, and communities facing challenging legal issues.
Having lived in India, the Philippines, and Canada, Nikhil offers a global perspective and an informed understanding of legal issues that arise in transnational and multicultural contexts. This global outlook is particularly beneficial to charities and institutions with an international reach.
Nikhil is also involved as a volunteer with a local charity, reflecting his commitment to public service and community engagement.
Nikhil earned his BLS LL.B. dual degree from the University of Mumbai, where he was awarded a scholarship for academic merit.
He has completed the licensing process with the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) and is currently completing his articles with The Acacia Group.
