About
Jeremy is a lawyer with The Acacia Group working in the areas of charity, employment, and corporate law and offering services in both French and English.
Jeremy brings a breadth of experience across a wide variety of areas of law and has a consistent track record of diligently advocating for his clients, including appearances in the Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Appeal. His experience litigating matters has influenced his approach to guiding clients through complex corporate and employment matters in an effort to avoid the costly expenses that come with litigation.
Charity and Non-Profit Law
Beyond his work in the legal industry, Jeremy has volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters, previously served as the coordinator of the Freedom Law Clinic at the University of Birmingham, and is a board member with Catholic Action Montreal. Whether as a volunteer or as a member of the board, Jeremy has been involved with charitable and non-profit organizations throughout Canada and abroad for well over a decade. He uses these experiences to bring practical knowledge that supplements his legal advice to the charities and non-profit organizations that he supports.
Jeremy enjoys finding creative and customized solutions for his clients’ problems and can assist with applications for charitable registration, incorporation of provincial or federal non-profit corporations, governance and corporate oversight, and policy development.
Corporate and Employment Law
Jeremy also supports for-profit corporations with all aspects of their business needs. Prior to earning his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Birmingham, Jeremy completed a Bachelor of Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University. His attention to detail allows him to advise and guide his clients in various aspects of their business, from minute book management to amending their articles of incorporation, issuing shares, and entering into commercial agreements with third parties. He also works closely with his corporate clients to ensure they have robust and holistic employment contracts and policies in place that meet employment standards, helping foster healthy and profitable workplace environments.
Abuse Response and Third-Party Investigations
Alongside Faye Silver, Jeremy facilitates and guides clients through complex abuse allegations. Applying a trauma-informed legal approach, Jeremy provides comprehensive services to ensure clients understand the steps to take in the event of an abuse allegation, minimize the risk of recurrence, and fulfill all legal obligations arising from the allegation.
Jeremy also provides independent third-party investigation services to assist clients in navigating the complexities of workplace allegations of discrimination or harassment, regulatory inquiries, or operational audits.
